Résumé

Économie, politique, faits de société : autant de domaines où la langue anglaise crée sans cesse de nouveaux mots parce que c’est l’actualité qui suscite la formation de néologismes. Le non-anglophone se trouve donc constamment confronté à des mots qu’il n’a jamais rencontrés, comme par exemple : hacktivism, nuclear-free zone, gender gap, consumer-led recovery, spin doctor, meltdown, same-sex parenting, vote rigging, infomercial, greenhouse gases… C’est en partant de cette constatation et des difficultés que présente l’apprentissage du lexique anglais par l’étudiant francophone (faux-amis, phrasal verbs, mots de liaison, collocations, polysémie…) que l’auteur a conçu cet ouvrage. Comportant près de deux mille cinq cents mots et expressions et constitué d’exercices sollicitant la participation active du lecteur, il propose une découverte progressive en vingt-cinq étapes du vocabulaire du monde contemporain. Les mots sont présentés en contexte, facilitant le travail de mémorisation. Des listes thématiques portant sur des questions d’actualité complètent l’ouvrage.
